OHATS - Student-Volunteer Tracking System

Student Volunteer History and Tracking System (SVHATS)

Status July 2011
Because this is now a Cabrini Connections project we will not be doing any work on it via Tutor/Mentor Institute, at least not in the near future. Since this type of system is of value to all tutor/mentor programs, we may look for investors who will help continue to develop the concept.

Status August 2021

The Cabrini Connections name was changed to Chicago Tutoring Connection around 2012 and the www.cabriniconnections.net was discontinued. The archive for the site (showing 2010 version) is [http://www.example.com https://web.archive.org/web/20100228085536/http://www.cabriniconnections.net/

This is an archive page of the Technology Center that hosted SVHATS information for Cabrini Connections students and volunteers.

History of Project
In every organization there it is a challenge to document the actions a group of people take over time to achieve a goal. In a youth development program, the long term outcomes are difficult to track because they may take place when the youth is no longer attending the program, and/or even living in the same community.

At the University of Kansas a work group began to address this issue by developing an on-line documentation system that many stakeholders could contribute to, and which others would be able to review to understand the impact the group has over time.

At Cabrini Connections, Tutor/Mentor Connection we piloted this thinking on two levels between 2000 and 2011. In 2000 we began to create an Organizational History and Tracking System to document actions the T/MC takes to achieve its goals. In 2003 we created a version of this that would track the journey of youth and volunteers in our Cabrini Connections tutor/mentor program.

The initial SVHATS was developed by an intern during fall 2003. While he was able to build the information input systems, funds were not available to continue fine-tuning the system to encourage youth and volunteer use, nor to add the aggregation and reporting features, or survey features, that would enable staff and evaluators to more easily view the data in report form, thus increasing uses of the information for analysis and process improvement. In July 2008 SVHATS was rebuilt.

The web site hosting the 2000-2011 information is no longer active. Visit http://www.cabriniconnections.org to inquire about current applications of the SVHATS project.
